New York 332 Overlay for Area Codes 212, 646 and 917 FAQs

General Information

What is the New York 332 area code overlay?

An overlay is the addition of another area code to the same geographic area as an existing area code(s). In the Manhattan area of New York City, the 332 area code is being added to the area served by the 212, 646 and 917 area codes to ensure a continuing supply of telephone numbers.

You won't have to change your existing area code or phone number. You'll simply continue to dial or enter the area code and phone number for all calls.

Who's affected by the New York 332 area code overlay?

Anyone who has a phone number with a 212, 646 or 917 area code in the Manhattan area of New York City should be aware that the new 332 area code will serve the same geographic area as the current 212, 646 and 917 area codes. See the map below of the 212 / 332 / 646 / 917 overlay area.

When will the New York 332 area code overlay begin?
