Here's how to set up, change or disable the screen lock option (e.g., password, pattern, etc.) for your moto g7 play.
  • If using Microsoft® Exchange / Corporate sync, some screen lock options may be unavailable.
  • These steps can also be used to change your current screen lock setting.

  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security
    .
  3. Tap
    Screen lock
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  4. Select
    None
    .
  5. If prompted, review the notification regarding device protection then tap
    Yes, remove
     to confirm.

Swipe

A lock screen requiring a left or right swipe is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security
    .
  3. Tap
    Screen lock
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  4. Select
    Swipe
    .
  5. If prompted, review the notification regarding device protection then tap
    Yes, remove
     to confirm.

Pattern

An unlock pattern is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security
    .
  3. Tap
    Screen lock
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  4. Select
    Pattern
    .
  5. From the 'Secure start-up' screen, tap
    Yes
    .
  6. Draw an unlock pattern (connecting at least 4 dots) then tap
    Next
    .
  7. Draw the same pattern again then tap
    Confirm
    .
  8. If presented, select an option then tap
    Done
     (lower-right):
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

PIN

A PIN is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security
    .
  3. Tap
    Screen lock
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  4. Select
    PIN
    .
  5. From the 'Secure start-up' screen, tap
    Yes
    .
  6. Enter a numeric PIN (4 to 16 digits) then tap
    Next
    .
  7. Re-enter the numeric PIN then tap
    Confirm
    .
  8. If presented, select an option then tap
    Done
     (lower-right):
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all

Password

A password is created to access the device.
  1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access all apps.
  2. Navigate:
    Settings Settings icon
    Security
    .
  3. Tap
    Screen lock
    .
    If presented, enter the current PIN, password or pattern.
  4. Select
    Password
    .
  5. From the 'Secure start-up' screen, tap
    Yes
    .
  6. Enter a password (4 to 16 characters) then tap
    Next
    .
  7. Re-enter the password then tap
    Confirm
    .
  8. If presented, select an option then tap
    Done
     (lower-right):
    • Show all notification content
    • Hide sensitive notification content
    • Don't show notifications at all
